What I love about September...

September marks the return to school, offering a chance to relish more peaceful moments. Gardens are planted, leaves begin to change, and you start looking forward to wearing your fall sweaters!

Celebrate fall indoors and out

September is also a period for deadheading and trimming your perennials, as well as removing the leggy, worn-out annuals and replacing them with the vibrant hues of fall mums. In my garden, acorn squash is the final vegetable ready for harvest. Late September in Michigan marks the start of cooler mornings following the intense summer heat.

I enjoy bringing out my fall purses and sweaters for the occasional cooler days and storing some of my summer clothes, while keeping a few skirts and shorts accessible for those Indian summer days.

In the kitchen, I showcase my apple cookbook and pear plate. I light McIntosh apple candles (Glade offers a fantastic Apple Cinnamon candle) and change my countertop cleaner to an apple scent. I adore the Meyer*s Clean Day Apple Cider and Orange Clove seasonal scents. You can also welcome the start of fall with dishtowels in seasonal colors. Since I enjoy the seasonal changes in Michigan, I transition my home from summer to fall in September. My navy chandelier shades are burlap, and my pillow covers display the goldenrod hues of this delightful transitional month.
