What I love about March…
March signals the official beginning of spring, and in Michigan, early spring flowers start to emerge from the warming soil. Local farm markets provide fresh asparagus, and there's nothing quite like asparagus soup made with freshly harvested asparagus. I take great joy in seeing the first crocus bloom in my gardens, and by mid-March, my daffodils, grape hyacinths, and forsythias are in full bloom under the sun, which is higher in the sky.

With the arrival of March, it's time to decorate in green for St. Patrick's Day! As with every holiday, I refresh my home decor to embrace spring. I swap out the stems in my front door urns with artificial Forsythia. On March 17th, Corned Beef and Cabbage becomes a menu staple, and the gardens warm up enough for a spring cleanup. Listening to Irish music in the month of March is a cherished tradition in my household. These activities all contribute to the excitement of spring's arrival and the eventual melting of the snow.
